We are drawing near to the end of the season of Lent as we prepare ourselves for the Easter season.  Please note the dates and times of our services for Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Sunrise Service and Easter Day Service. .

In Together in Song 358 entitled ‘Good Friday’ composed by Gerry Holmes, the lyrics speak of life turning black, of friends turning away, of an unspeakable act of violence and the death of a humble man.  At the same time, there’s ‘hat parades and Easter Eggs and hot cross buns in the stores’.

The account of the resurrection is hopeful and yet there is still terror, emptiness and difficulty.  In the midst of life there is darkness and light; despair and hope; loss and victory; absence and presence.  There is the reality that life is full of flaws.  There is the promise that the ‘…Christian God who went down, far down into the abyss of loss and dereliction but found there the quick of life itself, to rise to offer new hope to a tired and hopeless world.’ Alison Milbank.

It takes faith to believe in the mystery of the resurrection but one thing is for sure, there is hope, transformation and opportunity to start over no matter what the circumstances.

So go ahead and enjoy the chocolate eggs, hot cross buns, Oakbank, family gatherings and all the other traditions/practices associated with the Easter Long Weekend.  Just remember the God, who knows and lived our humanity; who in the midst of betrayal, violence and death showed us that our life can begin again.

It is because of all this that we journey through the dark events of the Gospel accounts and joyfully celebrate the dawn of a new day on Easter Sunday.   Praise God!  He is risen!
