Welcome to Lefevre Worship
Sunday 10th May Mothers Day
As we prepare to worship on this fifth Sunday of the Easter season and Mothers Day, we recall how Jesus as recorded in the gospels broke through the cultural, religious and gender barriers of his time with his message of Gods love, compassion and forgiveness for all people.
Jesus had a radically inclusive image for God’s kingdom,
Both on earth and in heaven.
Through coming to know Jesus, we come to know we are connected intimately with God and the mission of Love, hope, peace and joy for all people.
Hymn 1 –Tis Come as you are TIS 693
O God, In the beginning your Spirit moved over the waters and created light and firmament for life. You are powerful and mysterious and you are our rock and refuge.
With awe and gladness we come into the mystery of your presence
O Christ, you lived among us,
You taught and healed and showed us your great love and forgiveness,
on the cross of our transgressions. On the third day in accordance with the scriptures God raised you from death to new life as the risen Christ .
With assurance and hope we come into the mystery of your presence .
You, risen Christ, are here among us.
O Holy Spirit
You come to us as the breath of life – the fire in our bellys –
the warmth in our hearts, bringing strength – comforting and healing us.
With open hearts and minds we come into the mystery of your presence Holy Spirit . Amen
Meditation . Become aware of your breathing and begin slowly .
O God we call , O God we call ,
from deep in- side we yearn , from deep inside
we yearn, from deep inside we yearn for you .
Here, wherever we are, we are gathered together in Spirit , to hear stories of resurrection ( new ) life. – We remember the story of how God raised Jesus up from death and how God raises up all people in faith, for God’s mission of love ,grace , healing, peace and new life. From the New Testament stories we learn that we too are lifted up by God’s Holy Spirit , inviting us to fullness of life, through the community of faith .
Reading – John 14:1-17
The lectionary reading for this Sunday – John 14:1-17 is often chosen for funerals because it brings comfort and reassurance. It reminds us we can have faith in Jesus Christ because he is the way, the truth and the life.
What words of reassurance did you hear in the scripture today ?
We can imagine God’s house having many rooms. God always has room for us . Sometimes we need to remember this at the deepest level . Many people struggle with feelings of uncertainty , unworthiness and doubt about God’s extravagant love. Jesus shows us God’s extravagant love and calls forth our own capacity to love, have compassion and forgive.
Who is God inviting us to make room for ? Does it only include those who think, act and look like us ? Or is the circle wider and inclusive of those from whom we differ ?
We can trust Jesus
He will lead us to God and where he is , there we will also be .
Jesus’ teachings about eternal life have helped to reduce anxiety and fear in life and in death.
For our earthly lives, Jesus reassured us theres only 2 things we need to do
“Love God and love one another !
With Jesus – everything comes back to loving God and loving one another- everything can be solved by love – not by money – not by material possessions. .
Do you find that hard to believe ? It is hard to believe – but its true- the bible tells us so. Jesus has asked us to : do the work he began ( Luke 4:18 ) and keep his commandments with the help of the Holy Spirit. The problems of the world are solved by God’s love . Love which involves compassion and forgiveness, patience, mercy , generosity , non judgementalism Jesus knew that when we love God – we will try and keep his instructions. The good news is that we continue to learn to love all of our lives –. Its all in the BIBLE – Basic Instructions Before Leavingarth !
Please spend some time in Quiet reflection .
A time for community prayer
Please offer your prayers as you feel led. Please pray for those who need your prayers at this time and those on your hearts.
We remember Jesus when we are faithful to our calling and when we share in faithful community friendship .
Thank you everyone for the ways you are caring for one another and our community.
Song Tis 699
A new commandment I give unto you that you love one another as I have lived you , that you love one another as I have loved you . By this will others know that you are my disciples if you have love, one for another – by this will others know that you are my disciples if you have love one for another.
God who cares for us
The wonder of whose presence fills us with awe .
Let kindness, justice and love shine in our world.
Let your secrets be known here as they are in heaven .
Give us the food and the hope we need for today .
Forgive us our wrongdoing
As we forgive the wrongs done to us.
Protect us from pride and from despair
And from the fear and hate which can swallow us up.
In you is love ,truth, goodness and power ,
For ever and ever Amen.
Hymn Tis 607
Make me a channel of your peace
Where there is hatred let me bring your love.
Where there is injury your pardon Lord
And where there’s doubt true faith in you.
Make me a channel of your peace
Where there’s despair in life , let me bring hope
Where there is darkness, only light
And where there’s sadness, ever joy
Oh Master grant that I may never seek
So much to be consoled as to console
To be understood as to understand
To be loved as to love with all my soul.
